Special Olympians Would Beat Obama

When Mr. Obama made a comment comparing his poor bowling score to that of Special Olympic athletes, he obvious didn't realize how good those people can be. In reality, there's no way Obama could hold is own against Special Olympic bowlers.

On Thursday night, Obama went on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. They discussed several topics, one of which was Obama's terrible bowling ability. Obama claimed he'd been practicing and has had a high score of 129. The crowd laughed at him, he smiled, and then said, "it was like Special Olympics or something."

Obama obviously didn't know what he was talking about. Special Olympic bowlers like Kolan McConiughey average a score in the 200s and laugh at Obama's terrible game.

Some might see this remark as a harmless way to save Obama some embarrassment, but it backfired. The next day, Obama's administration had to release an apology for the comment, and Obama personally called the Special Olympics chairman to say he was sorry.

It's tough to think how a special needs child might feel hearing this. It's not just some guy on the street making fun of the kid, this is the president we're talking about. If the president makes fun of you, you'll probably take it to heart more than if a nobody on the street makes a comment.

Sure, Obama tried to fix his mistake the next day, but the damage is already done. The difference between his apology and his initial comment is that his initial comment came form his own mind. Anything said the next day is something that was formulated as damage control. The only time we see what politicians are really thinking is when they make a comment like that without a teleprompter in front of them.

Hopefully Obama will do some things in the future that unite the country instead of divide it. We don't need our president making comments that promote the idea that it's okay to make fun of someone else because he or she is different from you.
